Meet Cindy - WCF Board Member

February 29, 2016

Cindy Murphy is long-time friend, supporter, and advocate for Woman & Children First. She first became involved about 14 years ago when former board member Frank Cox asked for her help with a WCF fundraiser. Since then, Cindy has helped turn that fundraiser, known then as "The Auction" into the wildly successful Caribbean Cabaret; helped to form The Peacekeepers, WCF's young professional group; served 3 terms as a board member and is currently serving her fourth term; formed the Advisory Board for WCF; and founded the Woman of the Year Gala in January of 2007, WCF's largest annual fundraiser. Just last month, at the 10th Anniversary Gala, Cindy was recognized for contributing and raising over $1 million dollars for WCF over the past 10 years.

Cindy is a Partner in The Murphy Group with her husband, Chip. Previously, she was Founder and President of Murphy Marketing, Director of Community Relations for KATV Channel 7 (Little Rock, AR), Promotion Manager for Southern Magazine, and Director of Public Relations and Marketing for Ballet Arkansas. She was Media Coordinator for Congressional candidate, Dewayne Graham, in 2000. Cindy's media and marketing background have been an invaluable resource to the development of WCF and the events held each year. Cindy earned a B.A. Degree in English from the University of South Carolina where she studied under Poet Laureate James Dickey.

Cindy donates her professional services to various non-profit organizations and over the years, has provided marketing, media and public relations direction to dozens of Arkansas charities. She serves on numerous non-profit boards, including The Arkansas Repertory Theater, Arkansas Children's Hospital Foundation, Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute Foundation, Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, Wildwood Park for the Performing Arts, Pulaski Academy, Ballet Arkansas, and Equal Rights Amendment Office. Cindy and Chip have been well deservedly recognized in their community over the years. A few of their recent awards include the 2008 "Woman of the Year" awarded by WCF; 2011 "Philanthropists of the Year" awarded by the Arkansas Fundraising Professionals; 2012 "Arkansans of the Year" from Easter Seals Arkansas; and the 2016 Opus Ball Co-Chairs for the ASO's inaugural event in the newly renovated Robinson Theater's Ballroom.

WCF is honored and thankful for Cindy's hard work, dedication, time, support, and love that she has poured into the shelter over the years!
