Help Us Offer Safety, Strength, and Hope
Can you believe that 2016 is drawing to a close? A lot has happened at the shelter over the last year. In the first three quarters, Women & Children First has:
- Welcomed 463 guests, which includes 194 children, into the shelter.
- Answered over 3,600 crisis calls on our 24-Hour Crisis Hotline
- Assisted 19 families through our Transitional Housing Program
- Assisted 728 individuals with filing Orders of Protection
And the year is not over yet – we still have a busy month ahead of us. Last year, we welcomed 58 women, along with their children, into the shelter during the holiday season. Many of these guests arrive to the shelter with nothing but the clothes on their backs and a hope for a new life.
“When me and my children came to the shelter, we had nothing. I was lucky to escape my situation, but I had to leave behind my clothes, family pictures, my children’s toys, all of our things. When I walked through the doors of Women & Children First, the team made me feel not only safe, but also welcome. We were given bedding, toiletries, household items, and clothing as soon as we walked in the door. My kids got to pick out some toys to take into our room. The shelter was not our home, but the welcome we received when we got there helped to make it an easier time, not only for me but for my kids.
