Meet David – WCF Board Member

David Avery first learned of the vital services provided by Women and Children First from his friend, Cindy Murphy. Cindy and David worked together at KATV Channel 7 in Little Rock back in the ‘90s, and have remained friends since their days in broadcasting.

Cindy’s passion for Women & Children First moved him to learn more about the shelter’s work and ultimately accept an offer to serve on the board. “Scripture exhorts us to use whatever gift we have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God’s grace,” David said. “Women & Children First provides a vital platform in our state to serve others in need of support and healing.” Sadly, it is estimated that 1 in 3 women will suffer abuse regardless of age, race or income. For the past 40 years, Women and Children First has provided safety, strength and hope for all victims of family violence. “I have been blessed by my brief time on the board to see the amazing work of the caring, dedicated staff and board, as well as the terrific support provided by the Peacekeeper volunteers,” David said.

David is Vice President of Corporate Affairs for Windstream, a FORTUNE 500 telecommunications company, headquartered in Little Rock, Ark. David has more than 25 years of experience in public relations and broadcasting. He joined Windstream in 2006 as Director of Corporate Communications and previously served as Staff Manager of Corporate Communications at Alltel Corp. Prior to joining Alltel in 1998, he served as News Operations Director at KATV, the ABC-TV affiliate in Little Rock. David also served in media roles in the Arkansas Governor’s office and the Arkansas State Police.

In addition to serving on the board for Women & Children First, David also serves on the board of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute Foundation Fund Board and as an English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor. David holds a bachelor of science degree in radio-TV from Arkansas State University and is a native of Magnolia, Ark.
