Meet Cherie – WCF Board Member

Cherie Abston has been a part the WCF Board Secretary since 2012. She was first introduced to the work of WCF by her longtime friend, Diana Smithson who is a board member as well. When she began working at Regions Insurance in 2012, Ed Bennett, who was the Board Secretary at the time, asked Cherie if she would be interested in his spot on the board.

For Cherie, the decision to be a part of the WCF Board was personal. When she was young, Cherie saw a family member be a victim of domestic violence. While the family member was able to get out of the abusive situation and move on with their life, she knows that not all victims are that fortunate. Seeing the work that is done in the shelter each day to help victims of domestic violence become empowered was the motivating factor for accepting a seat on the WCF board.

Cherie is a UALR graduate with a B.S. in Accounting. After 20 years of banking experience with Bank of America, Cherie moved to her current job with Regions Insurance in 2012. She is married to Arthur Abston and has two children – Durand, age 10 and Arion, age 17. Cherie is very active in her children’s PTA’s, both at Booker Arts Magnet and Forest Heights STEM Academy.
